Our January Social was well attended, with almost all the available seating being used. But what made January so special was that we saw some faces that we hadn’t seen in quite some time, and we also saw some new, first-time faces. It looks like the information pipeline between Turner’s Honda and River City Wings is working well, and we are making personal contact with every new rider we learn about. In addition, our new Asst. Chapter Directors Virginia & Larry Hughes, who have also volunteered to be our Membership Enhancement Coordinators, have been contacting all of our former members or those members who have missed the last 3 or 4 meetings and checking to make sure that they are doing OK, and to invite them to come back to the party and attend a ride or a social with us. A special thanks to Larry & Virginia for their work, and also special thanks to our previously absent members who have decided to rejoin us. “It’s nice to have you back!” In fact, we were expecting several other first-time riders to attend in January and darned if one of them (Dr Askew) didn’t actually call the Golden Corral and get me on their phone to tell me that he had been unexpectedly called out of town, but that he would be at the Feb social for sure. Another couple e-mailed me the day after our social and expressed regret that they hadn’t been able to attend, but also planned on attending in February. So between the efforts of Larry & Virginia; Pat Boyce who actually chases down Gold Wing riders she sees on the road and invites them to a meeting; and the gang at Turner’s who are feeding us information about new Wingers on the road, I am very optimistic and enthusiastic that we will see our membership numbers growing this year. So let’s all take up the challenge and encourage the new riders that we meet to attend a River City Wings Social. Recruiting new members is something that we can all do; so if you get the chance, extend an invitation to the social or to a ride. And let’s not forget… always be safe out there. Lee |

It certainly doesn’t feel like a month has passed since the Jacksonville, NC New Year’s Day “Resolution Day Ride”… hereinafter to be known as the “Very Windy & Very Cold” ride. Time does truly fly, especially when you are having fun … and I do think we are having fun. |
